Volume 2 Issue 1
In this issue: How to Handle Agency
Advantage Database Errors
From the Editor
No matter how much effort a company puts towards quality
control for its software products, occasional errors are bound to occur.
Something may happen that causes The Agency Advantage to be disconnected from
it's
database. This can be a network error, power surge, disconnected
hard drive, accidental
uninstalling of Access, interference from a Microsoft Office program or
any number of things.
This newsletter is focused on helping our
users understand and troubleshoot those errors and eliminate their underlying causes.

Error Handling
Classic signs that you may be experiencing a problem are error messages
like "The expression on_click..." or "AAdata.mdb could not be found, use the next dialog
box..", missing data, or finding all of your customers displayed in red.
Don't panic! The data is still there, and most of the
time the database is fine. In rare instances the database may become
corrupt. If you have experienced a power or network failure and believe this is the case
refer to our
previous newsletter on database corruption for
additional information. For the other error messages
read on..
"If I get an error message what should I do?":
1. Check your network settings. When you get a
message that says that the database can't be found, it usually means one
of two things: 1) your
database is corrupt or 2) your data drive is disconnected from the
network. Make sure your
drive is still mapped by following the directions in the next paragraph.
Open up My Computer and look under Network Drives (if
you are physically sitting at the Server than this will not apply to you).

If you don't see anything under network
drives then possibly your drive has been disconnected. If there is a
red X on the drive it also means that
there is a connectivity issue. Double-click on your server drive. If you
receive an error message, restart the computer, then try to open The
Agency Advantage
again.
If you are still getting an error message
it is time to contact your computer technician as there are more complex issues with the computer or network. If the drive is
still missing completely you will need to contact your technician unless
you are technically savvy enough with Windows to
map your own drive.
2. Run the update. An on_click
message sometimes appears after the linking process has been
interrupted, or some other network fluctuation has occurred. It simply means
that WinAA doesn't see or recognize all of its database tables. Running the
update again will relink the tables. If you have updated the software, then you
can easily find the update in your S:\aa\updates folder (Where S is the
drive the data is located on, commonly called the server drive). The
update name is in the format WinAA20xx.exe with the version number
noted. It is recommended that everyone be logged out of
WinAA when you run the update. 90% of the time this will correct the error
you are experiencing.

If you are still experiencing an error
message, please contact us.
