When it is time for a new computer, there are several
things to consider besides getting the best deal. Our articles below will
help you select the right system for your agency. Buying the right
computer will reduce the likelihood that you will have problems
installing the programs that you want to run in your agency and
connecting to your network.
If you have a question or topic you would like
explained, a story to share, or just a quick useful tip, we'd love to
hear from you. Please send your responses to tina@agencyadvantage.com.

Buying
a New Computer
Going to the store or buying a new computer online isn’t
difficult if you know exactly what your requirements are. The computer you buy for your agency will
be considerably different from one you might buy for your home. At home, you
probably surf the web, check email, maybe work with some graphics or
music editing software, and possibly connect to the computers at work.
Home computers are usually configured for
light network tasks such as printer and file sharing. Businesses require computers that can
handle a much higher and complex level of network activity. This is just
one reason why that bargain priced computer at the local superstore is
likely to be a poor choice for your office.
Another critical factor for your new computer is the operating
system. Please see the article
below about operating systems..
Without adequate RAM (Random Access Memory) and
processing speed you're going to be dealing with slow performance. Today
most new computers come with 1GB of RAM.
Any less, and running a couple of heavy programs simultaneously will
likely cause your computer to run slow. A even better choice on RAM is 2GB or
more. You can never have too much
RAM.
Hard drive storage is inexpensive and 80GB is fairly
common on new workstations, but if you can upgrade to 120GB or higher
you'll likely never have storage problems.
As always if you have questions please give us a call.
800-442-5447 Dial option 3.
Differences
in Operating Systems
As mentioned above, when purchasing a new computer the
operating system is critically important. Windows Vista has two home
versions: Basic and Premium. Neither of these versions work well in a
business environment and consequently are not supported by The Agency
Advantage. It is important that you choose Vista Business or Ultimate
in order to ensure proper performance and operation in your agency..
If you have the option to purchase Windows XP Professional on the computer and are more
comfortable using this operating system, it is certainly a good choice. Windows XP Home is not supported.
Agency
Advantage Switches to VoIP Phone System
Recently we've upgraded to new telephone technology to better
serve our customers.
Prior to this upgrade each of our offices had different
phone lines and numbers. Dialing 800-833-5179 would give you the Sales
and Training office in Atlanta, GA. Dialing 800-442-5447 would reach the Technical
Assistance department in Roanoke, AL.
Now you can call either number and have the option to
connect to any department. We've utilized voice over IP technology to get
both offices connected. This also allows us to transfer calls between
locations.
Dial either 800 number. If you know your party's
extension you can dial it when the phone is answered. If you don’t know your party’s
extension choose from one the following three options:
Option 1 will give you the Sales department. If
you need information about the product or pricing, please choose this
option.
Option 2 is Product Support or Training. Choose
this option if you have questions about how to use The Agency Advantage
or need training. New customers should choose this option for assistance with
setting up their systems and scheduling their training.
Option 3 is Technical Assistance. Choose this
option if you need assistance with a problem within the program or if you
have an error message. Computer technicians setting up the network or
assisting the agent with computer issues would also dial this option.
Dial the wrong department? Don't worry, you don't have
to hang up and dial again anymore! We can transfer you to the right
department.
