Agency Advantage and 64bit Operating Systems | Agency Advantage Backup Information Update
From
the Editor
Technology and programs are always evolving and it is
wise to keep your computers and operating systems current, but sometimes some
of this technology is simply unnecessary or "overkill". You simply don’t need it to do your job
effectively. This is what we've found with the 64-bit operating systems.
Recently we changed the way that some information is
stored on your server. This can be critical to backing up your data
correctly.
Read more about these topics below.
Your suggestions are being heard. Most of our new
features come directly from our user submissions. Our latest version
3.038 is filled with customer submissions. If you have a great
idea, let us know.

Agency
Advantage and 64-bit Operating Systems
Recently we have had
a few customers call for support that had purchased new computers with a
64-bit operating system. Their issues have not been impossible to resolve,
but some were quite complex and time consuming.
64-bit processors and
operating systems are supposed to bring significant speed increases, but in
our research and trials we failed to find a noticeable increase in speed compared
to 32-bit operating systems.
Other automation
vendors seem to be reaching the same conclusion. The primary benefit a 64-bit operating
system at this time, is that they can support more RAM - more than 4GB.
For most office situations, this is not a requirement except possibibly
on a dedicated server.
At this time, we do
not recommend that our customers purchase 64-bit computers or operating
systems; the pros are simply outweighed the cons.
Agency
Advantage Backup Information Update
There have been a few changes in the Agency Advantage
data structure. A few months ago we changed the way that Agency Advantage
stores download files. This new method created an AL3 folder inside your
AA folder on your server. This AL3 folder needs to be backed up to ensure
you will be able to view the items under the Download tab in a customer
folder upon data restore.
The easiest thing to do would be to save the entire
AA folder located on your server along with the image storage location.
Otherwise, these are the individual items that need to
be backed up:
·
Inside the AA folder, aadata.mdb
·
Inside the AA folder, AL3 (folder)
·
Inside the AA folder, Attachments (folder)
·
Your default image storage drive or
folder.
