Regarding "7" and Agency Advantage Compatibility
From
the Editor
Microsoft is preparing to release a new operating
system: Windows 7. As with Vista, there are several different
versions of Windows 7. This newsletter focuses on the differences between
these versions and also explains briefly why the more basic versions do
not work with Agency Advantage.
Your suggestions are being heard. Most of our new
features come directly from our user submissions. If you have a great
idea, let us know.

Windows
7
Microsoft is planning to release their latest operating
system, Windows 7, on October 22, 2009. It has been reported that there
will be five versions of Windows 7:
·
Starter
·
Home Premium
·
Professional
·
Enterprise
·
Ultimate
Of these five versions, only three, Professional,
Enterprise, and Ultimate will work with The Agency
Advantage.
The Starter version has many limitations, like opening
3 programs at a time. This is an extremely stripped down operating system
and will not have Aero Glass, Windows Touch, Media Center, Live thumbnail
previews, and other features usually found in other versions of Windows.
The second version, Home Premium, will have most of the
above mentioned features, however, it will lack some key networking
capabilities for business level networks and will not have advanced backup.
Important
Information Regarding "7" and Agency Advantage Compatibility
The first two versions, Starter and Home Premium
will not be compatible with the Agency Advantage software. They are
similar to XP Home, Vista Home Basic and Vista Home Premium in that they
are all operating systems meant to be used at home on a small, simple
network.
The more advanced versions of Windows 7: Professional,
Enterprise, and Ultimate are all suitable for use in an
office environment. They will allow domain joins and have other more
advanced networking and sharing capabilities. They have all of the
necessary networking protocols to run an application over a
network.
With any new computer purchase, make sure the computer
sales person you are working with knows your requirements. Many of our
users are using simple peer-to-peer networks. Though simple in nature,
you will still need the ability to run an application over the network
with more advance security protocols. Windows 7 Starter and Home
Premium cannot deliver this.
As with most new operating systems, we would recommend
waiting to purchase new computers with the Windows 7 operating system
until Windows 7 has been out for a while. This may prevent unnecessary
interruption in your work flow due to the new "quirks" of
Windows 7. We are currently testing Windows 7, and hope to have
additional information soon.
If you have any questions regarding operating system
compatibility with the Agency Advantage. Please give our technical
assistance department a call at 800-442-5447 option 13.
